A Press Association telegram from Auckland reports the death of Mr. Gerhard John Mueller, ex-Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, and ex-Assist-ant Surveyor-General, at the age of 83. Mr. Mueller had been in New Zealand since 1858. He was born in Westphalia, and joined the General Government service in Westland in. 1871. He was appointed Chief Surveyor of Westland, and was later transferred to Auckland as Commissioner of Crown Lands and Cliief Surveyor. .In 1902 he became Assistant Surveyor-General, but retired the next' year.,
Mr. D. Buchanan, Cllristchurch, has received advice that his son. Corporal L. H. Buchanan, has been gassed, and was admitted to hospital on 28th January. Corporal Buchanan left with the' 4th Reinforcements, enlisting at the age of 17. This is'tho first time that ho has been incapacitated. Last year Corporal Buchanan was awarded the Military Medal, and for his work with a. trench mortar battery in the recent fighting has been recommended for a bar to,the medal. .
The Rev. Father W. J. Peoples, who for the past twelve months has been Senior Curate to the late Very Rev. Dean Carew in Greymouth/hafi (says the Chri6tchurch Preee) received notice of his promotion to Waimate, where heeucceeds the R«v. Father Aubry in charge of the parish. It is understood that Father Peoples will be succeeded 'at Greymouth by Father Dalton Campbell,; of Newtown parish, Wellingaon.
The Very Rev. Father Paul Aubry, S.M., parish priest of Waimate, Canterbury, has been appointed the successor' of the late Very Rev. Dean Carew in the ..pastorate of Greyrnouth. ;Father Aubry formerly was a> prof es6oi- at St. Patrick'e College; Wellington.
