WHILE BATHING AT WHANGAREI

THE BODY RECOVERED.

(BI TELEORAPH.—I>REE9 ASSOCIATION.)

WHANGAREI, This Day.

Professor H. D. Bedford, of Otago University, lost his life yesterday morning while bathing in the Mair Pool at Whangarei. His cry for help was heard by a previous bather, who returned to find Dr. Bedford sinking for the last time. The would-be Tescuer was unable to locate him. Others made attempts by diving, but all were unsuccessful. The body was recovered by dragging two hours later.

. Dr. Bedford, with the Rev. John Dawson, president of the New Zealand Alliance, had been on a lecturing tour in the far North. They returned to Whangarei on Saturday. Dr. Bedford's home is at Mosgiel. He leaves a wife and four children.
