This Day: ; The trial of Winifred Carrick, aged 27, charged with the murder of her son, Donald Lewis Carrick, aged/three years, ! at Addington on Bth - December, -was commenced to-day. Mr. Raymond/in opening the case for the Crown, said the body was found among some potato, plants, with the head battered.' -The movements of accused aroused suspicion. She had served a' sentence' for abandonl ing the child shortly after its birth, and last year stated that she would not pay V for its maintenance, • preferring ■to - re- ■ turn to prison.-' On the night* of -the murder accused had not slept in her bed, and had not given a satisfactory, account of her movements. ■A-'-sfcriped" dress would play a part in identification. After,her arrest there wa? found, a certain garment in a,damp and muddycondition, containing -gjrass- seeds-similar, to seeds taken, from Burns's. residence, where the child was boarded. The Crown contended that accused removed her boobs, carrying out the crime in her stockinged, feet. The reason put forward for the crime was the financial embarrassment of accused. . -
