LABOUR NOTES
Though Parliament has boon sitting some weeks it has not made much progress an the direction of legislation, and practically nothing has been heard of Labour matters except as they are affected by the gojieral question ot n>an-power and the keeping up of reinforcements. Among private members' Bills are one or two having a. Labour aspect. One, introduce, by Mr. A. H. Rmdmarsh, is for tho amendment of tho Shops and Offices Act in the matter of hotel-workers' hours. A report has been asked for .as to. tho administration, of the shop-heating- provisions of this Act. Question day, of course, has been the occasion for a number of references to Labour matters, but few of these have been of general interest.
Undoubtedly one of the most important mntters introduced this session is the rel>ort of the National Efficiency Boa.rd with reference to the dilution of labour and tho extended employment of women, boys, and girls. This will ea.ll for tlvorough consideration, and one aspect which must not be overlooked, is the possible effect of tho measures suggested upon the careers of the boys and girls brought in to assist in this time of crisis.
