Are shearers really - indispensable 1 ! This was a question which cropped up at the sitting, of .the First Military,■■Ser-y. vio« Board to-day, after the Chairman (Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.) had intimated that it would,reserve its decision;:-■ in regard to two shearers' appeals. Captain Walker remarked that in the light of: new events he would, suggest. that „.. before the two cases were finail(y dealt wi-hh tihe board should consider the -odvisableness of reviewing the whole of the sine die shearers' cases. He refer- .- red to the recent motion passed by the.V Sheepowners' Association' to the effect .y that'it was not necessary to exempt all,' single shearers. If afyer investigation "- the board decided it was not necessary to exempt shearers, it would release hundreds of men in the First Division. The Chairman stated that all sine die cases would have to come up for reconsideration. Mr. D.. M'Laren said that | while the pastoralists' might have passed the motion quoted, the farmers in some districts had complained that they could not get their sheep shorn in time. The Chairman: "Steps/will have to be taken-;., to see that all fthe boards• bring up ! their, sine die cases shortly." •■ ...
