FAILURE OF NEGOTIATIONS
SIR W. LAURIER UNABLE TO AGREE TO PROPOSALS
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEAIAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received June 8, 8.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, 7th June. Sir Robert Borden (Prime Minister) announced in Parliament that the ■ negotiations with Sir Wilfrid Lau'rier to form a Coalition Cabinet had failed. He read correspondence in which Sir. Wilfrid Laurier explained that he was unable to agree to proposals which comprised the formation of a Coalition Cabinet, and the passage of the Conscription Bill, and a subsequent appeal to the. country for its sanction. - Members did not comment, but cheered Sir Robert Borden. There is likely to be a split amongst the Liberals, a large section of whom are favourable to conscription. . (Received June 8, 9 a.m.) ■ OTTAWA, 7th June. The Laurier-Borden negotiations for a Coalition Government failed because Sir Wilfrid Laurier was unable to co-operate, since conscription was announced before the coalition proposals were made.
