CHBISTCHURCH, 7th June.

At a public meeting to-night in connection with tho movement to reduce tho hours of sale of liquor there was a fair attendance The speakers were Mr. H. Holland (Mayor), Dean Carrington, Messrs. J. T. Martin. F. Wilding, X.C, G. T. Booth, A. S. Taylor, A. W. Beaven, and H. D. Acland.

Motions on the lines of those passed at Dunedin, providing for 6 o'clock closing of hotel bars and restrictions' upon the importation, sale, and manufacture of intoxicating liquor, were carried.

The following also was carried: — "That this meeting of Christchurch citizens cordially supports the National Efficiency Board in the important work it has undertaken, and urges the Government to consider and act promptly on its recommendations."
