CRUELTY TO A HORSE

It was due to the vigilance and thought of two Customs officials that a gross case of cruelty, to a horse was recently brought under the notice of the authorities. The offender was a sixteen-year-old youth named David Wilson, and when he was charged .in tho Magistrate's Court to-day with cruelly ill* treating the animal, he admitted the offence. It was apparent from the evidenoe given that the boy, who was in charge of a horse, had belaboured the animal unmercifully with a piece.of wood, and had also kicked it about thchead. His behaviour indicated that he had lost his temper. In consideration of the defendant's youth Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., imposed a penalty of 10s, with costs. Mr. 0. C. Mazengarb appeared for the S.P.C.A.
