FEDERAL ELECTIONS
THE CONSCRIPTION GHOST MAIN ISSUES SWAMPED BY BICKERINGS.. , (Received April 27, 10 a.m.) • ' SYDNEY, This Day. loth aides are putting all their strength into the Federal election campaign, the 1 mum issues of whicii\ are largely swamped ' jby the bickerings of the now divided I Labourites and the attempts of one side io reincarnate and the other to effectually i lay the conscription ghost. The P.L.L. advocates insist that once the elections ] are over the country will be forced to | another conscription referendum, and the Liberals' as loudly disclaim any such in-. | tention. Both sides, however, are up against one solid troubte—the women's movement, which is in full awing in the shape of » chain letter binding the recipient to write or wire to their district candidates to pledge themselves to pass anti-shouting legislation. Also to call public meetings and otherwise stir up things for the same object. Each recipient is asked to pass the letter on to three other women. The postmen are already feeling.the weight of the chain.
