THE PRESS AND THE EMPIRE

BENEFITS OF DOMINIONS CON-

FERENCES.

LONDON, 25th April.

At the Empire Press Union luncheon to the War Conference delegates, Mr. Massey eulogised the press of the Southern "Hemisphere for its high tone and fairness. He regretted, the paucity of Dominion news in. British newspapers. Better cable communication required. It should be itaken u|> by the different Governments. Referring to Anzac Day, he said he hoped Gallipoli would .not be left to a foreign country. Sir James Mrston said the bringing of the Indian aud Dominions' ropresenfotives into the •conference had done much towards removing existing misunderstandings. He hoped the suggestion of a Parliamentary visit to India would include sending a Dominions' delegation, and also press representatives, and that the visit would take place 'before the next conference.

General Smuts insisted upon a deter; mined warfare which would not allow the enemy a chance again of becoming the scourge of tho world. •; ,■ •'
