A NEW VEHICLE.

A novel variation of the "auto-wheel" is reported to be acquiring a considerable amount of popularity in the United States. The auto-wheel, of which a few examples have been seen here, is a wheel driven by a small air-cooled engine of about 1£ horse-power, and so framed up that the outfit can be attached to an ordinary bicycle, alongside the rear wheel. When the engine is started, it drives the bicycle, and subject to obvious limitations, the outfit is a substitute for the regulation motor-cycle. The new modification is to use the "auto-wheel" to drive a light four-wheeled vehicle, which is of the lighest description, and consists only of a frame, a single seat, and steering gear. There are no clutches or gears, and power is applied or taken off by lowering the driving-wheel to the road or raising it up by means of a lever. These small outfits are sold at about £25.
