"ANZAC DAY"
CELEBRATIONS IN LONDON
(Received April • 26, 3 p.m.)
LONDON, 25th April. . Mrs. Andrew Fisher, Lady Northoqte, Lady Godley, and the AgentsGeneral attended the Anzac memorial services. The Bishop of Willesden, who preached, said the Australians on Gallipoli, though not victorious, were not defeated. When history was written the most' wonderful fact would be that before there was any suggestion of conscription in Australia, Cnnada, or England millions had volunteered for the Empire. The blood ' shed on Gallipoli and elsewhere had made a real instead of a nominal Empire.
At Westminster Cathedral, after the service, Cardinal Bourne held a'-recep-tion.
Sir John M'Call, president of the Australian Natives' Association, addressed the Australian troops at the Anzac Buffet. He said, that although our men Were making a record in France, it was nothing to what they had done in their great deeds on Gallipoli. Mr. Seymour Hicks entertained a large . number of 'Australians and New Zealanders at the Princess Theatre.
