ST. THOMAS'S PARISH

A satisfactory state of affaire is disclosed by the annual report and balancesheet of wardens and vestry of St. Thomas's Parish, Wellington South. The attendance at all services at St. Thomas's (Newtown) and St. Cuthbort's llsland Bay) have been well maintained, notwithstanding the absence of so many men at the front. Finance-shows a marked improvement. The general account commenced tho year with a debit of £29, and after providing for increases in stipends and the interest for vicarage debt due 30th June next account oloses with a credit of £19, tho general offerings having increased by £40 and the eustentation fund by £59, the latter undoubtedly due to the special effort made by tho vestry and others in their personal canvass when re-inaugurating tho "envelopes," whioh it is trußtcd tho parishioners will continue .to support. The vicarage debt has been decreased by £225, principally through the efforts made by the sale of work, aided by special donations. Provision should be mode aa coon as possible for repainting the vicarage. The special offertories for missions show a considerable increase over last year. St. Cuthbert's Churchroom debt has also been decreased by £113 from similar sources. The organ pedals have been rebushed and pneumatic action applied ; a. hydraulio blower has been ordered, but tho war may prevent obtaining the necessary machinery for a few months. Tho balance of money required for tho stained^ glass east window hns been provided by a. parishioner. The window is > expected from Home shortly. Regret is expressed at the resignation of Mr. Langridge, who materially assisted in placing tho Sustentation Fund upon a good basis. Mr. E. Collie was unanimously eleoted to the vacancy on the vestry. St. Agnes Guild Bazaar realised over £30, which was divided between St.' Mary's Girle* Mission and the Maori Mission. The total receipts for the year were £995 15s. . ' 'Y l.-
