THE FRENCH PRESSURE
ARTILLERY FIGHTING ON A LONG FRONT
LONDON, 24th April, A French official communique states ; The day was chiefly marked by artillery fighting along the whole front in the regions of St. Quentin, the Oise, Corbeny, Juvincourt, and the Champagne. Explosions were observed in a pertain number of batteries. We have brought back four 10i)-mm. (^inch) mortars, which were .captured during the fighting on the plateau of the Cheinin-des-Dames, and whicli had hitherto not been counted in our gains. Near Morjonyillers our light troops penetrated the German trenches, which jvere found to be full pf corpses.
The High Commissioner reports t— LONDON, 25th April, 3.15 p.m. French official—ln the region of the river Aisne, we made progress southeastwards of derny-en-Laonnais, and took some prisoners. A German attack, after a, violent bombardment, on the environs of Hurte/ bise and the Vauclierc Plateau, was stopped dsa,d by ojir fire. / In the Champagne we also progressed, and some prisoners and one gun were taken. Enemy raids near Tahure, in Maieons de. Champagne, failed, leaving many dead at our wire. ' , ''
