ARTILLERY FIGHTING ON A LONG FRONT

LONDON, 24th April, A French official communique states ; The day was chiefly marked by artillery fighting along the whole front in the regions of St. Quentin, the Oise, Corbeny, Juvincourt, and the Champagne. Explosions were observed in a pertain number of batteries. We have brought back four 10i)-mm. (^inch) mortars, which were .captured during the fighting on the plateau of the Cheinin-des-Dames, and whicli had hitherto not been counted in our gains. A German attack, after a, violent bombardment, on the environs of Hurte/ bise and the Vauclierc Plateau, was stopped dsa,d by ojir fire. / In the Champagne we also progressed, and some prisoners and one gun were taken.
