HEAVY POLL AT GREYMOUTH

A STRAIGHT-OUT FIGHT. (Bl TELBGIUPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GREYMOUTH, 25th April. There was 6plendid weather for the elections. The poll is one of the heaviest ever taken. The Mayor, Mr. A. J. D. Lynch, was rotnrned unopposed. The four issues were: Nine councillors, four members for the Hospital and Charitable Aid, Boavd, the half-holiday question, and. a referendum on Sunday pictures. The main interest centred on the election of the council, which had been resolved into practically o straight-out poll on conscription versus anti-con-scription. ' . Wednesday half-holiday was earned. Incomplete returns show that Labour cannot gain a single seat. Sunday pictures were voted out. Tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board returns are incomplete.
