TWELVE OLD COUNCILLORS ELECTED LABOUR UNPLACED IN THE CITY As the result of yesterday's elections the control of Wellington's municipal .affairs for (.he next two years will be in the hands of the following citizens:— MAYOR. Mr.. ,T. P. Luke. (Unopposed). COUNCILLORS. . Frost, G. Godber, J. Wright, R. A. Castle, J.. Atkinson, A. R. Shorland, J.: 0. M'Kenzie, L. Norwood, C. J. B. Luckie, M. M. F. Hildreth, W. T. Bennett, W. H. Fitzgerald, J. E. Veitch, A. Thompson, W. J. ! Barber, W. H. P. The anticipation that the lack of a Mayoral contest and. the unfavourable weather would result in a small vote at the civic elections proved to bo correct. The City Council poll was headed by Councillor George Frost, with 7388 votes. Last year Councillor Frost came second (with Councillor Fuller, who has retired, first),' and on that occasion 10,659 votes were cast for him. Twelve councillors who were seeking re-election, were; returned, Councillor Bu3h being the ' defeated candidate. The three new , councillors replacing Councillor Bush and Councillors Fuller and Hutcheson (retired) are Messrs. John Castle (Independent), J. 0. Shorland and C. J. B. Norwood (Municipal Association). No Labour candidate secured a place. The best vote was obtained by Mr. J. Hutchison with 4551 votes, against 5173 votes polled for the leading Labour candidate (Mr. H. E. Holland) at the last election.
