SCHOOL LIBRARIES

Reference to school libraries is made in tho annual report of the Wellington Board of Education.' Subsidy, it is stated, was paid on a number of donations to school libraries. The board's desire is that a larger number claim it. In this connection, the board wishes to thank the City Council, its Library' Committee, the" Librarian, and his staff, for the great benefit conferred on the city schools by the lending scheme now in operation. Tho example is woil worthy of imitation by other corporations. -

A few figures indicate the extent of the benefit. To thirteen schools and two side schools wore lent 4375 volumes, an increase of 1179; there were lent 36,671 individual books, of which half wore stories. 5072 fairy tales, folklore, etc., 1589 science, useful nits 702, literature 1147, travel and history 5919, biography 2869. This is a gratifying evidence of an improving tasto in books.
