The last meeting of the Charitable Aid Committee iof the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, prior to the biennial election, was held yesterday. The following motion, was unanimously ■ - adopted:—"That this committee place upon record its appreciation o£ the great assistance rendered to the ..committee by the charitable aid superintendent, Mr. A. H. Truebridge; the- unselfish services 1 of the matron of the Ohiro Benevolent ■ ! Home, Mrs Truobridge, and the good i work performed by the visitor, Miss ' Kirk." General regret was expressed ■ at the retirement of Mrs. T. M. Wilford, members speaking warmly of the attention and insight which she liafl brought to oear upon the work. The Chairman (Mr. D. Campbell) in thanking: the members for their support and diligence, referred <o the satisfactory result of the past year's work and the fact that, notwithstanding the pressnre of the times, the demand made upon the ratepayers for - the ensuing year for charitable aid was some £1000 less than the previous year. Mr. Campbell attributed this result' in ■ part, at any rate, to the careful administration which, ho said, aimed at affording adequate assistance to those really in need and adopting all possible means to discourago thosra who were disposed to evade their reegonribilities.
