.LONDON, 24th April. oamarra Station (seventy miles northward of Bagdad) has been occupied by the British. (AUBTEALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION AND KEUTEB.) (Received April 25, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, 24th April. General Maude reports : The battle on the right bank of the Tigris, between Samarra and Istabulat, continued during the night of the 22nd. Thero ,was severe hand-to-hand fighting, and numerous enemy counter-attacks. We drove out the enemy, who stubbornly defended the position, which had been elaborately prepared arid contained iron-roofed dug-outs. We pursued the enemy and occupied the Samarra Station on the 22nd. The enrimy had hastily destroyed all that was possible. Our captures include sixteen locomotives. The enemy's casualties on the 21st and 22nd were heavy.
