SEVERE ARTILLERY ACTIONS (AUBTBALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON-24tti April. A French official communique states : We completely repufted several at-, tacks at various points in Belgium. Between the Somme and the Oise, our batteries directed a destructive fire against the German organisations. Between the Aisne and the Chemin-des-Dames we made progress. North of Sancy the artillery duel is particularly eeyere in the sector of Hurtebise Farm. There has bepn much successful aeiial fighting. (Received April 25, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, 24th April. A French Communique states ; Two German reconnaissances, endeavouring to reach our lines in the direction of Hancourt were repulsed with heavy losses. There is.a, violent artillery struggle in the regions of Hurtebise, JToulon. Valley, and Craonne. frlinor actions enabled us to advance arid improve our •positions on the plateau at the Chemin-des-Dames and in the direction,of Juvincourt, where we carried a German post. Documents seized on prisoners established the fact that the German High Command had selected for an attack the front^ on which the French took the offensive on the 16th, The French thus seriously upset .Yon Hindenburg's plans.
