HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the. Lower Hutt Borough Council. was held last evening. Present > The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) and Councillors Hobbs,- .'Ball,. Clendon, Brasell, Carver, Meldrum, and Hodgins. •' / ,!, " The borough solicitor forwarded ■ a deed of covenant with the Wellington City Council, and transfer from New Gracefield, Ltd., and others re Gracefieldroad for execution. Agreed to.' The Mayor- and Councillor Hodgins, were authorised to sign same. ' ' ' The Postmaster, Lower Hutt, wrote stating' that his head office .had instructed him to notify, the council ■that a "id stamp vending, machine, could not be installed at. Lowir Hutt. On Councillor Ball's motion, seconded by Councillor Carver, it \v,as resolved to again approach the Department, as the present Id .machine ,was. useless, unless a £d machine was also installed. 0 An auctioneer's license was granted to Mr,;H. E. Leigliton. . -.■■.. The Hutt Association. Football Club and the Hutt Rugby Football Club wrote asking to be granted a playing ground on the Recreation Ground;. The requests were, granted. Justice protesting against, the proposed alterations to the old police ( station, as the building was quite uh'suiteble for a police' station. .Sixteen days' leave of absence was granted to Mr. John Ingram, the pumping works engineer! ;
The Catholic Federation wrote in" regard to tho censorship of picture films and posters, and aaldng .that'representatives., be appointed to attend a. conference to be held, to make a further protest; to the -Minister. The councillors present stated that the posters ■were very jbadY .and steps should be taken to put a' stop to theiri. The Mayor; was ap pointed to attend the conference. " The engineer reported that three connections had been made^with the gas mains, making 1 the total to date; 617; also five water connections, making a total of 1047; and one sewer connection, making a total of 937. The engineer was instructe3. ■ on the motion pf the Mayor and Councillor Hodp'ns, to submit an estimate for putting Laing's-road a.nd Aglipnby-street in order. ■ • i . * ' ■
