SAILING SHIP ACTIVITY.
Great activity in the,building of sailing ships with auxiliary motors is one of the results of war .conditions, Bays the New York Journal of Commerce. Before the.war the construction, of sailing snips had almost entirely ceased, even in France, Norway, and the United Sttatea, tho last countries which still had any large amount o£ sailing tonnage. At the present time there . are at least 30 sailing vessels of more than 1000 tons cargo capacity under construction in American yards, several of these being for Norwegian and Danish account. In Denmark itself attention is being devoted to smaller craft of 500 to 800 tons. In Norway the Randolph Company, of Fevik, which has reoently been, considerably enlarged, is building several sailing ships of about 4000 tons each, equipped with crude oil ongines developing 200 horse-power. ' Another Norwegian yard at Asker is going in for the building of sailing • vessels,. and :. already has several contracts on its books.
