LONDON, 12th October. A German communique declares that the English attacks north-west of Thiepval from the Le Saras-Gueudecourt line failed. The enemy six times advanced fruitlessly -at Sailly. Repeated French attacks * failed south of the Sonune.

The enemy in Transylvania was unable to resist our encircling attack in the Maros Valley, and a.re also retreating in the eastern and northern front. Enemy advances on both sides of the Vulcan 'Pass were repulsed. Attacks on the Cerna, west and east of the Vardar, failed.
