ONE TREE ORCHARDS
THE DEMAND TO REGISTER,
WHY NOT TAKE THE DIRECTORY? (BT TEUGIUPH.—SPECML TO THE POST.) AUCKLAND, This Day. ■ The demand that lias been nfade by the Department of Agriculture that every person who has one or more fruit trees growing in his garden shall register the fact lias aroused considerable ' surprise and indignation among residents of Auckland. Almost every garden in the city and suburbs has one or more trees growing in it, and the opinion is expressed that to demand that all these shall be registered is ridiculous. It is pointed out that the Department might abnost as well compile the register from the Post Office Directory, seeing that bai'dly a person is without at least one tree. Registration will cause quite a deal of annoyance to residents, and - entail much wasteful work on the part of the Department's officers. Local officials are unable to point to any regulation, justifying the step that has' been taken, or to explainwhy the register fa needed.
