ORIENTAL BAY PARADE
Members of the execu*** % Greater Wellington Town Planning and Municipal Electors' Association waited upon the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) yesterday afternoon, and presented the following resolution :—" That the executive of the Greater Wellington Town Planning and Municipal Electors' Association, having in view the welfare of the children, urge the City Council to adopt the, suggestion to construct a 6ft or Bft overhang to the esplanade at Oriental Bay, thereby procuring the full width of roadway as originally provided for by the City. Engineer, and at the same time preserving the beach, which is the only seaside playground for many of the children of the city." The Mayor, with the leader of the deputation, Mr. T. Ballinger, and the City Engineer, visited the Bay, and it was sees that the project was not practicable, since there is a height of less than sft from the sea level to the footway.
The City Engineer (Mr. Morton) drew attention to the marked erosion which had taken place on the foreshore at the spot where the overhanging wall was proposed. This indicated that when the wall was constructed a new beach would be formed very rapidly.
