HAZE AND CLOUDINESS

- The atmospheric depression* mentioned yesterday as being located to the southwards has extended and intensified considerably since. In the North high pressure still rules. Strong and squally westerly winds have prevailed in and southwards of Cook Strait, with gales in the Southern districts. The weather has continned fair over the North Island and in the east coast districts of the South Island, and ia parts of Southland rain was falling this morning, and generally unsettled conditions have ruled along the West Coast. The latter districts are likely to experience heavy rains, with rivers rising, shortly. Very boisterous conditions are probable in Cook and Foveanx Straits. The weather forecast is for increasing haze amd clondiness generally, and for a change to squally and unsettled conditions with rain, particularly southwards of New Plymouth and Castlepoint.
