SERIOUS ACCIDENT ♦ TRAIN COLLIDES WITH BAKER'S CART. A serious accident occurred at the Melling Railway Station yesterday, and as a result a married man manied Alexander M'Cauley, residing at Lower Hutt, lies in the Hospital in a critical condition. From the particulars available it appears that M'Cauley was driving a baker's cart across the line at about 4.10 o'clock, when the vehicle was struck by an empty train proceeding to Trentham. As the result of the impact the vehicle was smashed, the horse killed, and the driver seriously injured. Medical aid was summoned, and M'Cauley was admitted to the Hospital early last evening. The injured man's son, who was on the cart at the lime of the collision, escaped injury. Upon enquiry at the Hospital to-day it was ascertained that M'Cauley's condition was extremely critical. He is suffering from a severely fractured skull.
