A LABOUR INVESTMENT

The Amalgamated, Society of Railivay Servants has decided to invest £1000 of its surplus funds in the war loan. This decision was arrived at by the Executive Council of the society, which sat in Wellington this week. The council does not control the whole of the funds subscribed by members, a proportion remaining with the branches. In the case of the central fund the society is in the position of most similar bodies, in that it does, not keep a great amount at call, otherwise the sum put into the loan might have been even larger than £1000. A public meeting in support of the War Loan has been convened by the Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. .H. Baldwin) and- will be held in the local Council Chambers at 8 p.m. on Friday. To meet, the convenience of the public who are unable to attend during ordinary business hours, the~ Postal Department ■ lias arranged for the Money Order Office at Wellington and at all other offices to reopen from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. on Fri- ■■■■ day and Saturday, the 18th and 19th instant., for the purpose of selling war certificates and issuing application forms for investment in war bonds. Following an example set by some Australian employers on the occasion of the recent Australian War Loan issue, the directors of the D.I.C. have made a patriotic offer to the employees of their establishments, in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The offer is to purchase for any employee desiring to participate a War Loan Certificate up to the value of.£so,.the sum.to be repayable by the employee in monthly instalments of 5 per cent, of the price of issue.
