AYRSHIRE BREEDERS
ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING
Mr. F. Mills presided at tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Ayrshire Cattle Breeders' Association.
The committeo reported a satisfactory year's work. The membership remained at the same figure as last year, namely, 141. Eighteen names were removed owing to various causes and a like number of now members were added. Referring to the action of the President last year in urging breeders to take advantage of the system of semi-official testing of their cows, the report says that there is reason to boiieve that the appeal had some little effect. The number of cows put under the test is still much smaller than it should be, but it is gratifying to know that a few more owners have fallen into line. A number of cows have given very creditable returns, among them being 4681b, 4761b, 4921b, 5281b, and 6911b, the ;last standing as a world's leader in her class among Ayi'shires. The report was adopted. The President said that the association was not doing enoiigh to popularise the Ayrshire breed. He, made another appeal for an extension of official 'testing. Official testing, he said, was absolutely essential to the success of the breed. Many farmers, in their ignorance, were prejudiced against the Ayrshire, and he urged more carofnl breeding in order to eliminate alleged defects, Officers were elected as follow; — Patron, Mr. A. M'Farlane (Dunedin); president, Mr. David Buchanan; vicepresidents, Messrs. Parlane, Johnston, and H. H, Olsen ; committee, Messrs. Mills, Lonsdale, and Hall; treasurer, Mr, W. H. Karston ; auditor, Mr. G. Carter; secretary, Mr. Paul Neilson.
