WEATHER PROSPECTS

Although the . barometer has risen slightly in the north, the centre of a cyclonic disturbance is in evidence on the west coast of the South Island. The intensity of the storm is, however, being experienced in the northern and southernmost districts, where gales are reported, .with considerable rain. The east coast of the South Island has also reported a, good rainfall. Stormy conditions are -likely to continue, though modified for a time, by the development of a wesetrly disturbance on the Tasman Sea. High westerly winds, with a southerly tendency, are probable northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and south to south-easterlies elsewhere. Squally conditions, with heavy showers, are probable generally, the glass rising temporarily.
