Among the donations received by the Mayor (Mr.-J. P. Luke) to-day for the Sailors Fund were- a, cheque for £150 from Messrs. Macky, 'Logan, and Caldwell, Ltd., and a cheque for £35 from the Wellington Orphans Club.
For a considerable time untiring efforts have been made to erect ,a memorial to the men who fought in the Maori War. The prospect of these efforts being successful now appears much brighter (says the Auckland Star). It was reported at the last meeting of the Victoria League that the bronze casting had-arrived'From-Paris, and that certain details relating to the erection of the statue alone remain to be completed.
