PAINTERS' CONFERENCE

CHRISTCHTJRCH, 21st June,

A conference of master painters was opened here to-day, Mr. Lee, of Christchurch, presiding. Twenty-five delegates were present from various parts of the Dominion. The Chairman said the employees were lighting for higher wages, and the employers must combine and act in self-protection.

The Mayor (Mr. 'Holland) welcomed the delegates on behalf of the citizens. The conference will discuss a number of matters affecting the trade.
