-■ A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held at Petone tUis\morrring, before Mr. D. -G. A. Cooper, S.M. -

Charles Cudby, for a breach of a proliibition order, was . convicted! .and clis-

charged. A first-offender, for drunkenae.w, was similarly dealt with. ,

A youth, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared, pleaded guilty to a.charge of the i-beft of a tin of'benzine. Mr.'1' Ja."ksoii stated that the accused had no intention of steuiiug, but had sold the benzine on behalf of his employer.?, and had failed to account for the money. Accused was fined 20s and ordered, to refund the value' of the benzine, 11.?.

For allowing stock to wander, J. M'Vicar and Benjamin Jones were each fined.ss, with 7s cost*. " '

For failing to attend drill, youths wcro fined as follow : —J. A. 'Webster, 20s, with 7s'costs; A. A. Symes and F. E. Symes, each ss, and 7s costs; H. I'.tddell. 5s only ; and for obstructing parade R. Stunt was fined 5s and G. D. Stokes Ss. with 7s costs.

Alfred Harbottle was fined 5s for, rid ing a bicycle on a footpath.

A youth of twelve years of, age was ordered to receive six strokes of the birch for theft, and another youth of eleven years,'.'oft a similar charge, was cautioned and discharged. Henry John- Wynyard, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared, was fined ss; with 7s costs, for being on licensed premises during the time when such premises were required to be closed.

The Inspector of Awards proceeded against .E. Ba,ttersby for employing a non-unionist in the painting trade. Defendant said that the employee had stated, when asked, that he belonged to the union.' He -had endeavoured to see the secretary .of the union, but had failed. A penalty of 20s was imposed.

Judgment, was given for plaintiffs in the following' undefended civil cases:—' J. W. Smith (agent for G. Gibbs) v. Sam Howe, £3, with 5s costs; Mrs. G. Stunt v. H. and C. Ellicott. £6 Bs, costs 19s; E. P.. Kelly v. T. Corbett, £15 15s, costs 16s.
