CONTROL OF SHIPPING
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN
AUSTRALIA.
MELBOURNE, This Day. A conference is to be held between the Federal Ministry, representatives of the Navy, and the shipping companies with a view to arranging control of all shipping between Australian ports by the Naval Department, the companies to retain the management of the various lines, the Admiralty to dictate rates of freight and : direct tonnage into the channels of the greatest value. The Commonwealth action is the outcome of difficulty experienced by the State Governments in securing delivery of coal for the railways.
