RESULT OF BITTER LESSONS
THE POSITION IN GREECE
Lovat Fraser, in the Daily Mail, 'declares that, at the most critical moment of the war, Germany finds that Austria is a broken reed. Much depends on the Austrian centre being able to withstand the Russian drive, and Mr. Fraser says that this important point will be decided within ten days. An important interview -with General Brusiloff is published', in which he declares that given munitions Russia can repeat her successes of the past fortnight. Meantime the Russian progress continues: Before Verdun, the Germans, after the failure of their great assaults, are reported to be settling down to a methodical wearing away of the French defence. Greece is reported to be threatened with starvation, the grain supplies being almost exhausted.
