SOUTHERN MARKETS
(BT TELEGRAPH.—PEESS ASSOCIATION.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 20tti June.
During the past few days there has been a fair amount of business in-wheat passing between merchants and millers, but there is practically' nothing offering by growers, who are now holding firmly. The market is very firm, but no further advance in price is reported. There is an improved demand for oats, and purchases are being made by farmers for their own use. , As there is so little grain offering-locally, orders are being filled with Southland oats. Gartons are now worth up to 2s Bd, and Duns 2s lOd at country stations. ' ; The demand for potatoes has eased off, and merchants are finding it more difficult to, effect sales. This is due to the two large shipments that were recently made to Auckland. There is not a. large quantity offering, as the bulk of the unsold portion1 ; of the crop is now in tho pits, and growers are not inclined to sell, the price generally asked by them being £6 at country stations.
