COMMANDEERING CHEESE

DAIRYMEN IN CONFERENCE.

The proposal of the Government to requisition the cheese produced in the Dominion at a fixed price was referred to at the Palmerston North Dairy Conference yesterday. Mr. E. Moss'(Eketabuna) asked, whether the National Dairy Association had, inter alia,; considered the sale of cheese to the Imperial Government? Would it be possible to call a meeting to discuss the whole matter? This was suggested at a recent meeting at Pahiatua.

The Chairman (Mr. A. MoTton) replied that the Government had appointed the sth July to discuss . the raaiter in various centres. The- Prime Minister regarded last Saturday's meeting on the matter as confidential, and did not wish it discussed.

Mr. Moss thought that with such a large meeting as that, with delegates from, tlie North .and South Islands present, they should not let the opportunity slip past of discussing the matter together—both North and South. Mr. A. M'Farlane addressed the Pahiatna meeting, and he cleared away a.'great deal of misconception then. _ He might do so now. A quiet talk might allay a good deal of feeling in the matter. ■ It. was subsequently decided to meet later in the evening in committee.
