ENQUIRY TO BE HELD

In the House of Representatives yesterday notice was given by Mr. Pools to ask the Minister of Defence if he will enquire into the conduct of an officer on a troopship who, according to a- letter received, had taken extreme action against men who had signed a petition against the quality of the food provided.

The Prime Minister said that full enquiry must be made.

.- The Hon. A. M. Myers said that reports went to show, that the food supplied on the transports was the best procurable, and that no better could be obtained.

[The charges made by Mr. Poole's correspondent were that the n.c.o.'s who had signed the petition were paraded^ before the Officer Commanding, who used very offensive and extraordinary language.]
