Mr. David1 Buchanan, the well-known judgo and successful exhibitor of pedigree Ayrshire^, has at present some -excellent specimens of the Eden Park herd for sale.v The writer had the .pleasure recently of inspecting about fifteen fashionably-bred .pedigree sires, ranging in ages from about eighteen months to two and a-half years, which are to be sold by private treaty to dairy fanners who. desire to improve their herds. Eden Park Ayrshires have now for some years past taken practically all the more valuable awards given at tha principal shows, and the handsome collection of gold medals and cups to be seen at Mr. Buchanan's home is sufficient, indication^ of his wonderful success as a /breeder of these fine . dairy. cattle, and anyone in need of a first-class sire are invited to visit Eden Park arid make .their own selection. Several of the animals to be sold are sired by the high-priced bull imported by Mr. Buchanan some time ago, and the opportunity thus given is not one farmers should let pass. THE BRITISH BACON FACTORY. Palmerston North. 'Phone 955. Messrs. Garrity and Son, very old settlers in the Palmerston North district, have recently established an up-to-date bacon factory in the town, and have been particularly fortunate in securing the services of Mr. J. White as curer and manager. This gentleman has had many years' experience in this line of business, and is regarded as the most expert curer in the Dominion today. The", money invested is local cash supplied exclusively by : Garrity and Son. Although the firm only commenced operations a couple of months ago, their trade is rapidly expanding, and it has already been found necessary to not only increase the staff of the British Bacon Factory, but to make additions to their premises, and extend operations in many directions. S. toreteepers tell the writer that there is a big demand for this firm's bacon and hams, which are sold under the name of the Crown brand, and consumers . generally . speak in the highest terms of praise of the fine flavour and quality of the firm's goods. An inspection of. the factory in fiangi--tikei-street, where Mr. White, ably assisted by. Mr. E. Garrity and the staff, are at present working.ail hours to overcome the, great rush of trade whifch set in. almost immediately the factory became an established fact, is convincing proof . that every detail about this British firm's business is attended to. The utmost cleanliness is observed, in every department. Promptly .on the delivery of pigs thereto, the inspector is communicated with by phone, and in a very few minutes a rigid inspection commences of all carcases . sent_ in, whether for curing 011 behalf, of clients themselves, or sold right out- to the firm, and promptly anything showing the slightest sign of disease is' condemned and at once removed from the factory.. Messrs. Garrity ara determined to maintain the already good, name and quality of their hams and 'bacon, and the public should ask for the Crown brand, and insist upon getting it.
