A VALUABLE BY-PRODUCT
It is not generally known that ttio ■waste material gathered after flax has been dressed is a- splendid manure. It is always the custom to dry tho stripped flax by laying it out 'on the fences and fields in-the vicinity of the mills. One day. somebody discovered that■ the fields so.favoured looked ever so much better than those sunounding them. Grass grew quicker and more vigorously, particular-ly-after rain. Sooner or later/then, rlax came to be -regarded .as a. valuable fertiliser, and now it is used quite freely. It is particularly suited to rout : crops. The waste material is spread over the ground and allowed to rot. Then the rain comes and it is washed, in. The result is Eaid to be absolutely wonderful. Here is a. valuable hint for other districts which ha-ve not tried flax manure.
