TECHNICAL EDUCATION
TO MB EDITOR. Sir, —My letter appealing for technical education in: connection with the boot taade appears to have called forth very little adverse criticism "Bostock" affirms that a small class was held in Wellington .some yeans ago, but from what information I have to hand, it appears to have been limited to a certain section of the trade This branch of.the boot trade, viz., pattern-cutting, though important, cannot,be said to be numerically strong, and, therefore, could not appeal to shoe operatives as a body. My suggestion of a trade school includes all the important branche» of the trade.
Various people have been kind enough to express personal appreciation of the scheme, and probably there are others who are interested and approve. Seeing my appeal, for technical education was made in your valuable paper, may. I, through' the same medium, suggest a means by which such a project' may become .an established fact.
The names and addresses of persons who would either support or attend a Boot Trade Technical School, if forwarded to me in sufficient numbers, would enable the initial steps to be taken for the establishment of the same. The beneficial effects -that must necessarily follow the establishment of technical education upon proper lines cannot 'be over-estimated, and if shoe operatives will only adopt a scheme bj which they themselves would reap advantage, I have reason to believe sufficient support would be extended technical education to enable a Trade School in Wellington to become a concrete fact.—l am, etc., WILLIAM ENO. 3rd January.
