HEAVY TURKISH LOSSES.

LONDON, 31st December.

A report from General Townshend states that the enemy asked for four hours' armistice to bury his dead arid remove the wounded before the fort which he attacked on Christmas Day. - Independent reports confirm the heavy Turkish losses sustained at Ctesiphon, also during General Townshend's retreat and recent attacks at Kut-el-Amara.

Our casualties in the Christmas fighting were 71 killed and 309 wounded.

Reinforcements are steadily pushing up.

High Commissioner's report : — LONDON, 31st Dec, 9.35 p.m. General Townshend reports that a village on the right bank of the Tigris was heavily fired by enemy rifles. There was no other righting.
