THE FRENCH LOAN

ATTRACTING MUCH ATTENTION.

LONDON, Ist December. The subscriptions to the French loan are attracting much attention on the Stock Exchange, as its favourable terms are affecting all gilt-edged securities. Consols have dropped to 553 10s buyers, and £59 sellers, on account of this, and also because there is some profit-taking. The French loan, which will be ■ open till 15th December, is delaying the impending colonial issues. The Prime (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) saict this morning, in answer to a question, that the above reference could not be to any New Zealand transaction, as we had no issue at present on the market.
