"WASHING-UP" BILL
The "Washing-Up" Bill, or to give its correct title, the * Reserves a.nd other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Bill, which was introduced in Parliament by the Prime Minister last night is a bulky measure of 55 pages and 103 clauses. There are only a few clauses relating to Wellington. One of these (clause 52) provides for the payment by the Eastbourne Borough Council to the Wellington City Council of the sum of £250 as a contribution towards the purchase by the corporation from the Wel1 lington Steam Ferry Company of certain land at Day's Bay described in a deed of agreement dated 31st March, 1914, between the Ferry Company and the City Council. , Clause 55 authorises and empowers the Governor to lease to the Wellington Racing Club for a period of not longer than , 21 years (renewable) of an area of 44 acres adjoining Trentham racecourse. ' Under clause- 60 the Governor is em- . powered to take under ' the Public Works Act, 1908, the whole or part of - Town Acres 710, 711, and 712, City of * Wellington for the purpose of depositing spoil from the Mount Cook Reserve and for other purposes. No less than 32 clauses of the Bill relate to Auckland affairs.
