The High Commissioner reports: — LONDON, 4th Oct., 12.55 a.m. In Artois we progressed, capturing a blockhouse and " some entrenchments south of Givenchy. There is a general bombardment south of the Somme, in the 'Champagne, and in the Argonne. A squadron of French aviators bombarded the station, bridge, and military buildings at Luxembourg this morning. LONDON, 4th Oct.', 5.30 p.m. North of Arras progress" continues ; at Givecchy and Hill 119 the French occupied five crossroads. Fighting continued at Quennevieres, Nouvron, in Champagne, and at Mesnil. At the latter place enemy repulsed. French *. aviators dropped forty large shells at Sablon Station, Me\z; other aviators bombed junctions and stations behind the German front. (PRESS iSSOCIATION.) GERMAN COMMUNIQUE. BERLIN, 4th October. A communique states : — Monitors bom. barded Westende. The English abandoned their attempts to recapture Hhe ground north of Loos, after bitter fighting, with heavy losses.
