MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE QUESTION OF TRUSTEES. A meeting of the General Committee of the Wellington Patriotic Society was held last night, Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp presiding. Major CoTrigan wrote, resigning his position on the committee, owing .to demands of military duties. Major Corrigan's resignation was accepted with regret. It was decided to write to the Government supporting an application for a pension for the parents of the late Capt. Frandi. ' The question of appointing trustees of the fund, which was raised at the previous meeting, again came up for consideration. Mr. C. M. Luke urged that steps be taken to call a meeting of the public for the purpose of appointing trustees. The motion was seconded by Mr. R. Hall. The Chairman agreed with the motion. The committee was only a collecting body, and the question of the appointment of trustees had to be settled by the donors. His suggestion was that a sub-committee be appointed to draft a scheme for submission to such a meeting. He suggested that anyone who gave 5s should be a member, and ■ anyone who gave £5 should be a lifemember, of the association to be formed, and that an executive ,should be formed \of a representative character. Several jpeople were holding back their contributions until trustees had been appointed tfc> administer the fund. He suggested the sub-committee consist of himae \lf and Messrs. H. G. Hill, S. Kirkcv Idie, J. Macintosh, Ci M. Luke, Ft'?ler, and Colley, to meet the Mayor ant.l arrange for a public meeting^, the app, ointment of trustees, and the mcorpora tion of the society. Any delay that had x Aaken place, he added, was because they had hoped to have the national sqhenn\ in working order before this. As soc>)» as the Court of Appeal's sitting had finished Mr. Skerrett would visit the Sontth Island in his endeavour to perfect i'ihat scheme. Mr. R. Hall said the MaytW had agreed to arrange a public meeting for Thursday night in connection \rUh the Christmas Gift Fund, and the g.roposed meeting might reasonably take jOlace at the same time. The proposed aub-committee was appointed, to carry out* the object outlined by Mr. Luke and tYifc chairman. ■ . A sub -committee appointed for the purpose brought up a report relative to the raising at a, fund 'for the provision of Christmas for men at the front. The idea was ;t\hat if the movement was a national one,, -the sum aimed at should be £20,000 ; if \ \ was a provincial movement, the .aniovtit aimed at should be £5000. The committee proposed tha.t the matter be pi* V before a public meeting at an early- <jyte, and put forward a 6cheme of campay.sp for the raising of the sum required \iy means of aai organised band of collectors. The Mayor, it was stated, had aai\eed to call a publio meeting on ThursdV.y night •, to consider the subject. Mr G\ 'M. Luke said that the last ship that couW take gifts to the front would leave on [Saturday. A large shipment of goods wav awaitmg despatch by that means'. Tha ' representative of the Tramways Board svilid that that body had also already arri' aged to send a> considerable ©umber of \jifts in separate parcels; they consisted' of a cake, a pipe, two tins of tobaccos and a writing pad. Mr. R. Hall, suggested that the men in camp -in New Zealand should also receive consideration .> "We must not forget that there are a number of our men at Samoa," remnU'ked another member of the committee. 'The sub-com-mittee which brought up tins report was appointed- to make arrangements for Thursday night's meeting.
