AT FLAG STATIONS
RAILWAY FACILITIES. In reply -to representations from the Wellington Chamber of Commerce that an office of the Railway Department should be stationed at Trentham to look after goods on arrival, the Department has replied that it has an officer at Trentham who supervises the delivery of goods and parcels for the public. The main traffic, however, is in connection with the military camp, goods for which are usually in truck loads "and are delivered at the camp siding, and over these the Department has no control. When the report was read at yesterday's meeting of the conncil, Mr. Bridson considered that it was most unsatisfactory. Goods consigned to Trentham bad sometimes failed to reach their destination. Some apples from Nelson for the Nelson contingent had been sold in the canteen. The secretary pointed to the statement that goods for Trentham camp went in trucks to the Defence siding and were not controlled by the Departrmeni Without altering all regulations they could not change the system at Trentham. Tie Chairman (Mr. R. W. Waterhouse) said the regulations in regard to flag stations and the delivery of goods should be altered. It was decided that the presideiit (Mr. J. Macintosh), vice-president (Mr. R. W. Waterhouse), and Mr. Manton, wait upon the Department in regard to the matter.
