SEVERAL VESSELS ATTACKED THE VALUE OF SPEED (Bjr Telegraph. — Press Association.— Copyright.) LONDON, Ist February. The submarines' third victim was tho steamer Kilcoan., which was sunk tear the Linda Blanche, twenty miles off the Liverpool bar. The crew landed at Douglas. Several eteamers sighted the submarines and went at full speed and Bcaped. ' LONDON, Ist February.'. The China Mutual Steam Navigation Company's steamer Atreus has cached the Clyde after an exciting race from two German submarines of the Wgest classj carrying a gun affc of the conning-tower. The crews of the sunken vessels pay a tribute^ to the courtesy of. the subnarine's officers, who said :— - " Sorry— but war is war." They offered the crew oi the Linda Blanche cigars and cigarettes. The German submarine U2l is credited with the sinking of the Pathfinder early in the war, and the Robertson steamer Malachite (of Glasgow), off Havre, on 23rd November. She was flying the white ensign when she stopped the Belfast steamer Kilcoan. The Irish mail steamer Leinster sighted a submarine near Kish Lighthouse, but easily out-distanced the enemy when pursued. PARIS, Ist February. i The Icaria has arrived from Barnstke from Brazil, with a cargo of coffee, sugar, and hides. She sustained a. violent explosion below the water-line, and hoisted distress signals- Torpedo boate, which were defending Havre, answered the call, and tugs brought the Icaria into the harbour. The leak wag stopped.
