AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. 1 The annual meeting of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club was held in the V.M.C.A. rooms last evening. Mr. T. S. Ronaldson presided. The chairman stated that the club was not in a flourishing condition owing to the fact that several members, including some of the executive officers, were absent, either in Samoa or at the front. Under the circumstances, it was decided not to go on with the usual business, and that was probably a wise decision. The meeting might consider the advisability of holding a big meeting, or at least some evening meetings. In the absence of an annual report, Mr. W. H. Pollock outlined the nature of the club's activities since the last annual meeting. He hoped that, with the assistance of other clubs, something could be done to keep amateur athletics going. Four new members were elected. The election of officers resulted as follows : —'Patron, His Excellency the Governor, !Lord Liverpool ; chairman, Mr. C. E. Bridge; vice-presidents, Hon. A. L. Herdman, Dr. Newman, Messrs. J. P. Firth, A. Marryatt, J. H. Pollock, H. D. Bell^L. Blundell. V. R. Meredith, J. B.\ Speed, A. J. Abbott, F Ross, W. F. Larkin, L. 0. H. Tripp, H. Amos, J. P. Luke, A. A. Paape, J. Duthie, J. P. Maxwell, E. D. Bell, T S. Ronaldson, and E. Hiley; Executive Committee, Messrs. W. H. Pollock, A. C. Kitto, G. Turner, A. Halligan, <C. Turnbull, A. Evenson, D. Binnie, and F. Crewes; secretary, Mr. F. Crewes (pro tern. ); treasurer, Mr. C. Hodson; handicappers, Messrs. W. H. Pollock, G. Turner, and A. C. Kitto; auditor, Mr. F. Wilton ; delegates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. A. Halligan and G. Turner. As to a meeting, it was decided to hold an evening Bxture on Wednesday, 17th February, on the Basin Reserve. Three events are to be held, 100 yards, 440 yards, and one mile. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the retiring president and to the press.
