HUTT-ROAD

CITY COUNCIL TO ACT. UNDER GOVERNMENT GUARANTEE. The vexed question of the control and maintenance of the Hutt-road was discussed again by a special meeting of the City Council yesterday afternoon. The council had before it the following letter from the Minister for Railway© (Hon W. H. Herries) and the AttorneyGeneral (Hon. A. L. Herdman) :— " To the Mayor, Wellington.— Sir,— As intimated to you in Mr Herdman's letter of 30th October last, the question of the maintenance of the Hutt-road was duly referred to the Government for consideration, and a decision has been arrived at.
